Green Tea For Weight Loss

By Expert Author: J. Baad

Green tea can aid your weight loss goals if you have any. What is good about green tea is that it has no side effects and brings you many health benefits not to mention disease prevention because of its antioxidant properties.

Among the different kinds of tea, green tea is favored for weight loss because of its polyphenol antioxidants and caffeine concentrations. Yes, in terms of weight loss, caffeine together with the antioxidant ingredients in green tea can be beneficial.

Before we begin our discussion on the way green tea can benefit in weight loss, we'll have to get a little understanding about noradrenaline, better known as norepinephrine. It is a hormone released by the adrenal glands. The release is triggered by events such as being under a stressful situation. Caffeine can also fool the body as to being in a stressful event thereby triggering the adrenal glands to release noradrenaline together with other hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.

Cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cCAMP), whose function is to speed up the rate of converting glycogen into glucose for energy production, is stimulated in a stressful event thereby making available an abundant supply of raw materials for energy production which then speeds up metabolism.

The presence of noradrenaline in the blood together with EGCG(epigallocatechin gallate) of green tea, triggers thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue(BAT), fatty tissues which can be found in the waistline and buttocks of adults. It converts free fatty acids into heat instead of being created as energy(ATP) in the mitochondria of the cell.

After noradrenaline has prepared the body for the 'fight or flight' situation, catechol O-methyltransferase(COMT) which degrades noradrenaline, come into play. Phosphodiesterase(PDE) also degrades cCAMP. With the degradation of noradrenaline and cCAMP, thermogenesis halts and energy production goes back to normal. So for a limited time, our body speeds up metabolism and converts fatty acids in the BAT into heat(thermogenesis) to cope with a stressful event.

This is where green tea and caffeine work together to burn more fat. Green tea prevents noradrenaline from degrading and caffeine prevents cCAMP from degrading for an extended period of time. This means burning more fat for a longer period of time.

Caffeine alone can produce little thermogenesis on BAT but when combined with green tea, the effect goes to a larger extent.

For a healthier weight loss, it would be a good suggestion to try green tea. Experts advise to take 6 to 10 cups of green tea per day to fully benefit from its antioxidant properties. Well, why not try that amount? Lose weight and reap the antioxidant benefits that green tea brings.

A study has also been made that adding citrus fruits to green tea can make our body absorb more of its antioxidants by several fold.

6 to 10 cups of green tea may be too much for those who doesn't like the taste or for those who does not have the schedule to ingest that amount. An alternative would be to take green tea extract which are available in capsule form or in liquid form combined with other herbal extracts.

Green tea comes from the same tea plant as other teas do but other teas are made from baby leaves. The green tea is made from the older leaves that are allowed to stay on the plant longer the best green tea comes from the top leaves and may also include the bloom on the top. This can be hard to find for people that are novice tea makers.

Starting a green tea diet is as good as taking vitamins C and E because there are more antioxidants in green tea than there are in vitamins c and e. For those that wish to avoid alcohol or wish not to be able to over do it green tea is the near perfect alternative. Many people in China and Japan smoke more than they do here but they don’t have as many cancer reports as we have here. This is because they drink more green tea than we do. Green tea seems to stop or slow down the growth of some cancers. Green tea is a powerful cancer preventative when it is drank in place of other beverages.

For people that smoke green tea green tea may help provide a small amount of protection until they are able to stop smoking. No herb can give you complete protection so the best thing you can do is stop smoking. When buying green tea for your green tea diet you want to get the freshest tea at the highest quality possible. So you want to order it from people that grow the tea themselves. The best way to do this is over the internet. Most of the time you can get these teas from Ebay.

When you purchase green tea it should not be powdery this means that the tea has been mistreated. If you decide to use a diet program like crevax the green tea is included in the pill with the other ingredients. Green tea is not just for drinking. You can get all the benefits from green tea even if you use it on your body like in a body wash or shampoo.

Green Tea For Weight Loss, Anti Aging and Health

By Expert Author: Jennifer Kays

We have all heard others talking about the great health benefits of green tea. Few of us, until recently, have known that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at lest 4,000 years to treat everything from pain to depression. Recent scientific research in Japan and other Asian countries have given us a better idea of just how green tea provides health benefits, especially for weight loss and maintenance.

Green tea contains high concentations of catechin polyphenols which increase fat oxidation and thermogenesis. Thermogenenesis is heat created in our bodies by burning fuels such as fat. The thermogenesis that green tea creates was at first thought to be because of its caffeine. Research has shown that green tea stimulates brown fat thermogenesis with far more effectiveness than an equal amount of caffeine alone. The catechin plyphenols contained in green tea, especially epigallocatecin gallate, EGCG, works with caffeine synergistically to stimulate thermogenesis and prolong sympathetic thermogenesis. Research has shown that green tea increases energy expenditure and fat oxidation during a whole 24 hour period whereas caffeine only increases metabolism at the time it is ingested.

Green tea helps burn an extra 78 calories per day. We gain weight because excess sugars and fats are stored in our fat cells. Green tea inhibits the movement of glucose, i.e. excess sugars and fats, in fat cells. Green tea also causes carbohydrates to be released more slowly therefore preventing spikes in blood insulin levels which can produce false hunger feelings. For a long time researchers have wondered why the French have fewer excess weight concerns and heart disease concerns since the French diet is so rich in fats.

Their answer was that the resveratrol, a polyphenol, found in red wine limited the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. The University of Kansas found that the EGCG in green tea is twice as powerful as resveratrol found in red wine. It has been found that epigallocateching gallate, EGCG, contained in green tea is at least 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E in protecting cells and DNA from damage. This makes green tea one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Antioxidants have been shown to fight viruses and slow the aging process.

EGCG is very effective in lowering LDL cholesterol and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Green tea has been shown to relax blood vessels which is also important for the prevention of heart attack and stroke. The powerful antioxidant content of green tea because of its high amounts of polyphenols and flavenoids greatly strengthens our immune system and slows the aging process.

EGCG contained in green tea inhibits the grown of cancer cells and kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. The National Cancer Research Institute of Tokyo suggests that green tea may be a very effective way of preventing cancer.. Green tea has been shown to lower all types of cancers, especially in digestive and urinary tracts.

Green tea applied topically has been shown to protect skin against cancer and actually slow the progress of skin cancer that is already present. Green tea is being used more and more in topical natural skin care products. Green tea has been shown to benefit white blood cells during chemotherapy treatment.

Because of its antibacterial qualities, green tea is effective in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, dental plaque and greatly reduce the harmful bacteria in the mouth. Green tea's antibacterial qualities also helps in the prevention of food poison and decrease in harmful bacteria found in our digestive systems. So why is green tea more beneficial than other teas. The answer is in the processing. Green tea leaves are steamed.

This prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. Black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves. Fermentation causes EGCG to be converted into compounds that are not as effective in helping with weight loss and in antioxidant value. Therefore, green tea with it's steam processing retains all the effectiveness and amounts of EGCG, which results in its weight loss and antioxidant benefits. Most of us are drinking something during most of our day. If we make green tea our drink, we have found a very simple and consistent way of adding great health benefits to our lives. By drinking green tea, we have found a simple and consistent way of eliminating our body weight concerns, building our immune system, improving our oral health, improving our digestive health and slowing the aging process.

Using topical skin care products containing green tea improves our skin condition and appearance. Green tea is also available in supplement capsule form if we are wanting to obtain it's benefits without drinking green tea.

Chinese Green Tea as the Drink to Health

By Expert Author: Janey Yang

Many studies suggest that fresh-brewed tea can benefit health and fight disease. Tea is cosy, comforting, easy to brew, and can be enjoyed anywhere at any time. Chinese green has more varieties than any other tea in China as well as any other country in the world.

Tasty and Healthy Chinese tea is healthy in a lot of ways. It lowers blood pressure, protects the heart, helps to prevent obesity, prevents tooth decay and increases immunity, etc. Sounds like a TV commercial but it has been working on more than billions of Chinese people over thousands of years.

It's announced in November, 2001 that research has found scientific evidence that Chinese tea can actually help to prevent cancer. It's more than just empty talk now. As a fellow Chinese tea drinker puts it "when I am home after a busy day, I make myself a cup of tea while sitting slanted on the sofa. A sip of hot tea down the throat, the whole world loosens up. The feeling is soooo ... you know... ". Yes, as a Chinese tea drinker, Kam knows. Chinese tea's impact on one's psychological health is immediate. In summer or warm climate, tea seems to dispel the heat and bring on instant cool together with a feeling of relaxation. For this reason, tea-houses abound in towns and market villages in South China and provide elderly retirees with the locales to meet.

The above, however, does not go to say that the stronger the tea, the more advantages it will yield. Too much tannic acid will affect the secretion of the gastric juice, irritate the membrane of the stomach and cause indigestion or constipation. Strong tea taken just before bedtime will give rise to occasional insomnia. Constant drinking of over-strong tea may induce heart and blood-pressure disorders in some people, reduce the milk of a breast-feeding mother, and put a brown color on the teeth of young people. But it is not difficult to ward off these undesirable effects: just don't make your tea too strong. Green Tea Ingredient May Promote Healthy Weight Loss

Most teas contain large amounts of polyphenols, which are plant-based substances that have been shown to have antioxidant, anticancer, and antiviral properties.

However, green tea is particularly rich in a type of polyphenols called catechins. These substances have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, but recent research in animals show that catechins may also affect body fat accumulation and cholesterol levels.

Handpicked Yield High Quality Tea In China, most leaves are still handpicked, which yields a higher quality crop. Many of the top grade teas are still handmade, allowing tea masters to finetune their process to optimise the quality of the individual leaves. Knowledgeable tea drinkers can find the best of the finest in the Land of the Dragon. The low cost of living in China often results in affordable prices for many teas. Unlike black tea, Chinese green tea is made with minimal processing.

A process - called firing - applies heat to kill the enzymes and arrest the oxidation, or fermentation. Traditionally, the Chinese uses three firing process: steaming, pan-frying and baking. Japanese tea only uses steaming. Pan-frying was the most popular method in China. It was preferred over steaming for two reasons: it is quicker to pan-fry than to steam, and it stimulates an intense chestnuty aroma and flavor.

Baking can be done using either charcoal or electric oven. It is preferred over pan-frying when it is important to preserve the shape and texture, such as when making floral infused green tea. Many Chinese green tea are produced using combination of pan-frying and baking, allowing the advantages of each method to be exploited. Chinese Tea is A Way of Life A cup of tea in the morning sets the pace of the day. Sitting and chatting with a few good friends over a couple rounds of tea makes life worth living. Brewing Chinese tea calms me down. Chinese tea is more than just something to drink. It has in fact become a way of life for many Chinese Diet Green Tea and Longevity The role of Chinese diet green tea in promoting longevity has been investigated upon by many researchers.

They found the premise of their study on observing that Japanese women who are greater-than-average Chinese diet green tea drinkers; have lower mortality rates compared to others. This led the researchers to believe that Chinese diet green tea has "a protective factor against premature death." The polyphenols found in Chinese diet green tea may be held accountable. With its high amount of polyphenols, Chinese diet green tea seems to have a stimulating effect on the immune system. Stronger immune system as a result of drinking Chinese diet green tea helps reduce risks of acquiring any illnesses.

Drinking Green Tea May Help You Lose Weight

Green Tea Also Has Anticancer Properties
----------------------------------------

Green tea, which has been reported to have anticancer properties and to raise levels of antioxidants in the blood that may ward off heart disease, now appears to have the potential to promote weight loss. A new study in the March issue of the International Journal of Obesity concludes that green tea extract increases the burning of calories and fat needed to lose weight.

Green Tea In Liquid Or Capsule May Aid In Weight Loss
---------------------------------------------------

Previous animal studies showed that green tea extract increased thermogenesis, which is the generation of body heat that occurs as a result of normal digestion, absorption, and metabolization of food. In previous human studies, the authors showed that consumption of green tea increased thermogenesis as well as energy expenditure and fat loss in healthy men, suggesting that green tea in liquid or capsule form may be an effective way to aid weight loss. In the new study, conducted by Abdul Dulloo, from the Institute of Physiology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, researchers exposed a particular type of fatty tissue from rats to caffeine and to green tea extract containing small concentrations of caffeine.

Green Tea Containing Caffeine Can Raise Metabolism
-----------------------------------------

Green tea containing caffeine significantly increased thermogenesis by 28% to 77%, depending on dose, whereas caffeine alone resulted in no significant increase. When the stimulant ephedrine was added to green tea with caffeine, the increase was even more significant compared with caffeine alone and ephedrine alone. Caffeine and ephedrine are used together in some herbal weight loss preparations, but there are many safety concerns regarding ephedrine because it raises heart rate and blood pressure.

Dulloo and colleagues also tested the plant compound EGCG found in green tea. They found that the stimulant ephedrine alone had no effect on thermogenesis, but that caffeine plus ephedrine resulted in an 84% increase. However, adding EGCG to the caffeine plus ephedrine mix increased thermogenesis even further.

"Our studies ... raise the possibility that the therapeutic potential of the green tea extract, or indeed a combination of EGCG and caffeine, may be extended to the management of obesity," Dulloo and co-authors write.

A researcher who reviewed the study for WebMD says that while the work is interesting and extends this group's previous findings by showing that compounds in green tea other than caffeine are involved in thermogenesis, caution should be used in interpreting animal data and applying it to humans.

"They used [a particular type of fatty tissue] from rats and we don't really know how significant that tissue is in humans or if it is different in obese vs. non-obese people," says Sheri Zidenberg-Cherr, PhD. "It doesn't rule out the significance of the findings, and it is a good model to use to look at the effects of caffeine and the combination of caffeine and the [plant] compounds that are present in green tea, but until better clinical trials are done in humans, it's hard to say what the physiological significance of this actually may be." Zidenberg-Cherr, who is an associate professor of nutrition at the University of California, Davis, also points out that thermogenesis plays only a very small role in energy expenditure in adults. Most of the energy expended is used to maintain basic body functions such as breathing and the flow of blood throughout the body.

She says green tea may have many health benefits due to its plant compounds, but cautions that it is not the answer to weight-loss woes. "Green tea can't be used, and it shouldn't be used, as a 'magic bullet' for weight loss," she tells WebMD. "You've got to combine it with other changes, including increasing physical activity and reducing a high-calorie diet."
